Notice on Launching the Selection for the Inaugural "Feng Zengzhao Palaeogeography Award"
34All relevant units, the Council, and the Professional Committees:
In order to perpetuate the academic spirit of Professor Feng Zengzhao and to encourage continuous innovation and talent cultivation in palaeogeography and related fields, through a resolution adopted at the Fourth Meeting of the First Council of ISP, our Society has decided to launch the "Feng Zengzhao Palaeogeography Award" on a global scale. The award consists of the “ Feng Zengzhao Outstanding Contribution Award in Palaeogeography” and the “Feng Zengzhao Young Scientist Award in Palaeogeography”, and is presented biennially. All relevant units, council members, and professional committees are kindly invited to provide their support and actively recommend outstanding scientific and technical personnel for nomination.
The relevant matters are hereby notified as follows:
1. Award Categories and Candidate Requirements
The award is divided into the following two sub-categories:
(1) “Feng Zengzhao Outstanding Contribution Award in Palaeogeography”
Each award cycle shall honor one to two individuals, and no repeat awards shall be granted.
(2) “Feng Zengzhao Young Scientist Award in Palaeogeography”
Each award cycle selects two to five people. Recipients must be aged 45 or under (as of December 31 of the year they are nominated), and no one may receive the award more than once.
Candidate Requirements:
(1) Candidates must comply with laws and regulations, demonstrate a scientific spirit of dedication, innovation and collaboration, and maintain good academic ethics and conduct.
(2) Senior scholars who have made breakthrough achievements in fundamental theories, research methods, or applied outcomes in palaeogeography and related fields, thereby having significant influence on the development of the discipline; and young scholars who have generated innovative results in palaeogeographic research and exhibit excellent potential for future growth.
(3) Lifetime member of the ISP.
2. Recommendation Procedure
The Award adopts a nomination system. Candidates applying for the Feng Zengzhao Palaeogeography Award must be nominated by an eligible organization. (For details, see Chapter 4, “Acceptance Procedure”from statute of "Feng Zengzhao Palaeogeography Award" of International Society of Palaeogeography.)
(1) Recommendation by Council Member Units: Each unit may recommend a maximum of two candidates per discipline.
(2) Recommendation by Professional Committees: Each professional committee may recommend a maximun of two candidates.
(3) Expert Recommendation: Two experts with senior professional technical titles may jointly recommend a candidate. Members of the current award selection committee are not eligible to serve as recommending experts.
3. Review Process
(1) The award process includes a preliminary review and a final review. The preliminary review is normally carried out by correspondence. The final review is conducted by the Award Selection Committee via a recorded vote, and review results shall be submitted to the Council for filing.
(2) The Society shall make the award results public, accept any objections or complaints, and handle them accordingly. (For details, see Chapter 5, “Review Mechanism” from statute of "Feng Zengzhao Palaeogeography Award" of International Society of Palaeogeography.)
Selection Results: The results of the "Feng Zengzhao Palaeogeography Award" will be announced on the Society’s website (https://www.isp2022.org/), and it will be presented at the 7th International Conference of Palaeogeography in Mendoza, Argentina, in October 2026.
4. Deadline
Nomination deadline: July 30, 2026
5. Material requirements and submission methods
(1) the Award Recommendation Form, a curriculum vitae, limited to five representative papers and a maximum of two monographs, along with patents and certificates of awards or honors.

(3) The submitted recommendation materials shall not involve state secrets and shall be objective, accurate, and authentic.
